Is Pence for Governor really a good idea?

From HoosierAccess:

The reason for this post is to drive some serious discussion about all our speculations

Like a typical politico I have had my own predictions about Indiana’s 2012 Governor’s race, and I’ve tried to stick with them from day one so I don’t look like a Mexican jumping bean. A long time ago I said Mike Pence will run for Governor in 2012, and I repeated that over and over again in months following whenever the discussion came up.

I said it over and over because I believed it, but not because I wanted it. Until now, I really have not put much thought into who I would like to see run for Governor in 2012. I still believe that Pence will run for Governor, and if he does, there will be no primary. He already travels the state, doing every Lincoln Day dinner he can, mostly outside his 6th congressional district. He has the name ID and he has the donors. If he runs (or maybe when) it will mark the end of the 2012 Republican primary. But the more I think about it, the more I wonder if Governor Pence is really such a good idea for Hoosiers and the Indiana Republican Party.

The reason I said Pence would run many moons ago was because I believe he wants to be President. No one (well at least it is very difficult to) jumps from the House to the White House, so the logical step would be run for Governor and then President in the future.

But does Indiana need a Governor who views his post as a stepping stone?
